An event is a meeting of people that have a common interest. In the case of a PHP event, the common good is the PHP language and related technologies like database servers, Web servers, front-end, hosting, tools, security, etc.
In the past, I participated in many PHP events. I even helped to organize the events in collaboration with other developers.
Those were good moments to learn from our colleagues. We could have interactive discussions to debate solutions to common problems that many of us had related to PHP development.
Online events can reproduce part of the good experiences of a presence event. Indeed, you cannot shake hands, give hugs, or eat together in the same place. Still, the experience of sharing knowledge through video and sound can be reproduced online.
