Manuel Lemos manuellemos.netThere is only one way to go for what is already good: getting better. This what WROX accomplished with this release which is basically a follow-up of the "Professional PHP Programming" book. The book was greatly augmented and updated. It now covers the same issues more in depth and also issues that were not previously covered, like: Sessions, FTP, NNTP, XSL and newer XML APIs, ODBC, PDF, Macromedia Flash, WAP/WML, Internationalization of applications, Optimization of PHP code and also non-Web programming possibilities like GUI programming with PHP-GTK or automating task in Unix systems with cron or in Windows with AT. This book has been written by even more PHP developers than the previous. This assures the very high level of quality and detail of each chapter. The only criticism that I have with this is that it seems there is no mention to which author wrote each chapter. That would help the readers to know who to contact when they would like to reach the especialist that wrote the chapters they are most interested. Anyway, even if you have bought the first book, this may still be a good purchase as this is one of the best PHP books ever, if not the best. If you have not bought the original book, this may be THE PHP BOOK that you would like to invest your savings. Even if you have bought the first Professional PHP Programming book, this may still be a good purchase as this is one of the best PHP books ever, if not the best. If you have not bought the original book, this may be THE PHP BOOK that you would like to invest your savings.
