The book "CodeIgniter 1.7 Professional Development" was written by Adam Griffiths. The author is a well known developer in the CodeIgniter community. He also contributed nice authentication library.

So as expected, I found a lot of high quality information in the book. The experience of the author with CodeIgniter is clearly demonstrated.

Despite the first chapter is dedicated to get you started with CodeIgniter, I think it is better if you already have some experience with the framework. Still even long time CodeIgniter developers may find valuable information there.

Personally I enjoyed reading about building large scale applications in chapter 7. The timing is perfect because of the project I am working on.

Another chapter I liked is Chapter 10 – Developing and Releasing Code to the community. Although its quite short chapter, there is a lot of information regarding this subject. The author shared in this chapter his experience of writing and maintaining the authentication library. I really enjoyed it. It motivates you to create and share.

What I missed in the book, and I think most of the beginners would find useful, is application structure examples, discussing different ways you can build real world Web applications that almost every developer will write at some point.

CodeIgniter is amazing PHP framework. It is lightweight, very flexible and simple to understand.

This book contains valuable information and explains recommended practices, that can turn any newbie into skilled CodeIgniter developer.

If I only had this book a year ago, I could have become better CodeIgniter developer much faster.
