It seems to have been written having in mind the majority of the users that are trying to use PHP as an Open Source alternative to develop Web sites. For many of these users, MySQL is an excellent choice of database product to support dynamic Web sites. So, teaching the combination of PHP and MySQL in a single book is very well sought.

The book starts with PHP crash course and a series of other introductory chapters that are ideal for the impatient that feel the need to learn the basics of PHP and MySQL database programming very quickly. After that, there are two parts on more serious issues on building E-commerce applications and using advanced features of PHP and MySQL.

The real gold of this book is in the last part that focus on building practical projects. It starts teaching important concepts on building large projects and debugging Web applications. Then it continues teaching how to solve very typical problems in Web development like: authentication, personalization, building shopping cart, a content management system, a webmail system, a mailing list manager, web forums and generating documents in PDF.

The CD that comes with the book comes with all that expected to come with a book of this level (Web server, PHP and MySQL) and more like the actual book in electronic format.
