Google is one of the Internet Web sites that has became a legend on its own due to a lot of innovation. Such innovation allowed it to have unique characteristics that made it stand out from the category of Internet search engine sites.

Most users know Google for its ability to provide search results that are usually much more objective and consequently more useful than what other similar Internet search engine sites could provide. This is mostly due to the way Google sorts search results.

Google sorts its search results according to the relevance of each Web page that is found. Web page relevance is determined with a patented algorithm known as Page Rank. This algorithm takes in account the links that point to a given page, as well the links that the page has to other pages.

The Page Rank algorithm is one the 100 industrial strength tips and tools that are presented in the Google Hacks book. In this context, hacks are ways to take advantage of Google services to obtain a licit benefit.

Google hacks are split into several chapters that may interest from the curious person, to the researcher that depends on the Internet to do his job or any site Web master.

It starts with a chapter that details the aspects of searching the Web with Google and then others about Google special services, third-party Google services, services that require no programming, API based services that are meant to interact applications programmed in different languages (PHP, Java, Python, C#/.Net, Visual Basic, etc.), examples of applications of API based services, Google pranks and games.

There is one last chapter that interests mostly to site owners and Web masters. It focus on how to take advantage of Google to lead as many users to your site as possible. This is the chapter that talks about Google Page Rank and what can you do to optimize your site pages to be found more often by the users of Google. For Web site owners, just this chapter alone makes it well worth buying this book.

Whether you are a regular Google user or a site owner or Web master that would like to drive as many users as possible from Google to your site, this is a book that you must read. It is very objective and so it is not too long. So, even if you do not have time of the patience to read it all from the beginning to the end, you may just jump directly to the hacks that interest you most and still make good use of the immense knowledge shared in this book.
