How to use this to read data that are not numbers?

Reading numbers goes very well, but when the Excel cell contains text, PHP want display anything.

If text is written in row number 1, this is suggested as a headline.
But text in other parts of the sheet is not being put into the array $odbc_data.

Any suggestions?
