I Agree.
It's because that JSON have been more used on the new frameworks and pattern's. It's simple and small.

Exactly, but we still have to deal with XML in some cases.

Another aspect is that JSON only allows a few data types. XML does not have real data types, so you can nest tags in side tag values.
