PHP has come a long way since I first started using it (PHP3 FTW!).

And with "serious" framework, such as Symfony, it will, hopefully, become a more respected language.

I've just recently upgraded to 7.1 and the performance gain, compared to 5.6, is amazing!

Best,
Peter

When it comes comparing PHP 5.6 vs PHP 7 (https://www.cloudways.com/blog/laravel-5-benchmarks-php-5-6-and-7/ ), the latter obviously takes the lead. The benchmarks of Laravel prove this point. Avg. response time for Laravel 5.4 with PHP 5.6 was 553 ms, while with PHP 7 it was 274 ms.

I really cannot comment on those frameworks in specific but I would love if somebody could improve this article to include up to date benchmarks to cover those frameworks' performance, as that is a topic of great interest of the PHP community.
