Why to deprecate, you can use another extension if you want, otherwise use the "classic" one ... if this will happen, over 100 costumers will jump in my head that their website is not working anymore. The good part is that I always use a custom MySQL class that calls the well-known functions and I just need to replace that ... but really ... WHY ? This will start a war, again, they will be hosting companies that will refuse to update, and hosting companies that will update to the newest PHP version, what does this war means? It means that when I create a website/webapp for a client, it might not work after he upload it ... ugly ...

Exactly, but it seems that supporters of deprecation are not aware of those consequences.

Don't worry, if you actually read the original post by Philip, you'll find it goes out of its way to state that this is only a PHP documentation change.
