Why not? The solution written in PHP is ready and working well. It does not have any problems. It seems prejudice claim that PHP is not made for that.
PHP is not a toy language. It has extensions to run processes and send signals to them. If that is useful to make your PHP applications run better, why not use them?
Other than that this site already uses a dedicated server. It costs money to buy or hire more servers. Even if you can afford more servers, the less servers the better as long as the site responds well.
