In addition to other plugins mentioned in earlier comments, there's also a plugin for viewing the source of a selection. I use it all the time. In the extension management area, search for "view selection source". It actually pops up a couple different ones that do the same thing but with different interface styles. Try 'em both out and see which one ya like.

Actually I tried both but none works for me. They just open an empty popup Window.

Anyway, that is not the way Firefox works. Firefox opens the View Source window and selects the HTML of the selected section of the page.

The great thing about that feature in Firefox is actually, that it shows the source after JavaScript is done with it. If you just view the page source, it shows what got sent to the browser, but when using "view selection source" it shows you the source also including JavaScript modifications etc. This part of the functionality should also be included in the extension for Chrome (which I didn't try by the way).
